I’m guessing many of you are like me: tired and retired. Our kids are approaching middle age. The grand kids have their university degrees and are setting out on their journey of life. It’s time for some well deserved rest and relaxation.
The last thing you need is a project. I do hate to ask, but I desperately need your help. I would be grateful if you will honor me with a few minutes of your time and hear me out.
Why Boomers?
Because we started the fight. We fought bravely and valiantly. We won battles and thought we had won the war. We made a difference.
What the heck am I talking about?
Remember the decade 1965 to 1975? ... civil rights marches, race riots, feminist rights marches and protests, 50,000 young lives sacrificed in Vietnam, the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Kent State, Three Mile Island, the burning Cuyahoga River, Love Canal, smog … those battles. As a result of our collective outcry and action, laws were enacted and regulations were passed: Civil Rights Act, Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, Voting Rights Act, Environmental Protection Agency, Endangered Species Act, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Fair Housing Act, etc. It certainly felt like we had won - so we went on with our lives. Even if every thing wasn’t perfect, progress was clearly being made. Affirmative action and the enforcement and expansion of Civil Rights laws brought more diversity, equity and inclusion to the workplace and beyond, productivity soared, our lives were enriched. Our air and water quality improved.
But ... as most of you are acutely aware, our investment is in serious jeopardy! A substantial portion of our nation’s population is being led by a radical group of anarchists who have usurped the Republican party and are hell bent on destroying all our national institutions and individual liberty in order to replace democracy with a dictator.
Please join me in a seven month concentrated effort to finish what we started sixty years ago. I have joined The Union, a boots on the ground organization dedicated to preserving democracy in the US. Our goal is to organize a nationwide campaign to successfully elect a unified pro-democracy government (President and Congress - Senate and House) in November 2024 with sufficient margins to enact laws and reforms that assure the justice, rights and liberties of our democracy will be secured for us and our posterity.
The Union has over 67,000 volunteers today, along with great leadership, a sound strategy, and the organization and tools needed to make a difference. Please join me today, and help make our piece of this effort into a Boomer Legacy Project. Once you join The Union, you can access The Union Hub (a slack platform) to communicate with other volunteers and take action. In the “Channels” section you can access sub-groups based on states and/or interests and/or your skills.
Let’s put a lock on our democracy once and forever. BOOM and done!

Why stop with Boomers, this call to action applies to all reasonable people. If we lose this democracy we all lose, just ask people in Russia, is that what we want, I don’t think so.
