Recently, I was asked why I joined The Union. This was my response …
I believe that Donald Trump and his supporters constitute a grave threat to our democracy, our national security, and the progress we have made during the Biden administration to address what is, in my opinion, the existential threat of the climate crisis. A Trump presidency, I fear, will undermine every institution we rely on for a well-ordered society, including a free and fair election system, an effective and reliable civil and criminal justice system, an independent and fair judiciary, and an environmental protection system.
I do not want to live in a dictatorship (particularly, a Trump dictatorship). History has taught us time and again that dictators exercise power and control through fear, intimidation, and violence. Trump’s campaign rhetoric, threats of retribution, exultation of strongman dictators of other countries, and utter contempt for the rule of law leave no doubt in my mind about how he will exercise power and control if returned to office.
I want to help prevent that from happening.
