Yes, I watched the debate. It was hard to watch. I thought that President Biden looked and sounded like he was not feeling well. He looked pale, had an obvious hoarse voice and seemed a little out of it. Perhaps he over prepared and lost his voice or had a cold. Trump was just plain horrible. I don’t see the point of having these debates because Trump just lies and lies with no one fact checking him except for the few times that Biden did. But despite Biden’s weak performance, the fact remains that Biden represents positivity, competence, has a competent staff and will preserve our democracy and Rule of Law. Trump can’t be trusted to ever say the truth. He represents hatefulness, dictatorship and will bring with him a litany of Christian Nationalist fascists, whose intent it is to tear down and destroy our country. The choice is clear and shouldn’t be a difficult one to make if you love this country.

One bad night does not on a debate stage does not reflect on a career of public service. Let us remember the Supreme Court is grabbing power and they along with Trump are going to take us back to the dark ages. I can’t believe that they lack common sense and their fealty to American Oligarchs is very bad for the average citizen. So much progress we have made for clean air and water is all for naught. Anyway we can fix that and re-elect President Biden, so he can appoint reasonable judges to avoid a dark future.

Obviously the Pres. is old, wasn't in best form, stumbled & failed trying to keep ahead of the Trump's ceaseless barrage of lies and attacks. So the media/pundits' response is to hold up the Felonʻs hand and declare him victorious? Focus on how the Dems are freaking out? Bidenʻs shortcomings are there, but he has been and is a very capable President who actually cares about our country, with a solid team. The emphasis should be on how the Big Liar spewed momentous falsehoods, dodged most questions put to him, and remains a huge danger to both America & the world. While I understand those who want the Dem party to change horses, at this moment it would be a disaster. Pull yourselves together! We have work to do.

Biden had a bad night! Get over it! As usual tRump got a pass. HE NEVER ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS and LIED, LIED, LIED. Nothing was fact-checked! The headlines demonize Biden to ensure their piece gets read. It's 9 PM--a god forsaken hour to hold a debate and the time of night perfect for tRump because he’s a media person who has told the world that he doesn’t retire until well after the early hours of the morning. He probably got a great nap in because unlike Biden, he never had work at a job. So, America, throw Biden under the bus because he didn't perform. What were we looking for? Biden answered the questions and gave the country the information that shows we're a working democracy, albeit a flawed one with the MAGA's in the House and the Supreme Court. Biden let the audience know that the U.S. has a plan for immigration but that the MAGA Republicans repudiated it because they were told to by, yep, you know who. The entire night, tRump wanted to instill panic over the border. The border. I live in Phoenix. I was born and raised in Texas. I’m of Mexican heritage. I have family in Mexico. I have more fear of tRump and what his Maga commandos plan to do to democracy if tRump makes it to the white house. THIS band of thugs will run the country--tRump will be off golfing. All he will have to do is play the part of the man at the table of power, pound the desk, throw bottles of Ketchup, grunt, spew out maledictions, until the next round of golf where he can go play because there will always be someone at his side ready to enforce his fascist Project 2025. Not one question about that either. Not that tRUMP would have answered. Remember, his entire plan revolves around immigration. This is how I saw the debate: tRump was as expected, (sigh) and was given a bow and a pass. Biden sidestepped sainthood, dammit, and he should pay for that! Crucify him!

The bare minimum level of performance Biden needed to deliver last night was to show he was energetic and has a solid mind. I think he failed badly on both fronts. To me it really doesn't matter what the reasons are for what happened.....it happened and I don't think that bell can be unrung.

My take: If Biden is on the ticket in November our next president is Trump. For people in the middle - who could vote either way - I think someone like Trump (even with all of his horrible faults) is better than someone whose mind is fading. (I'm obviously not capable of, nor am I trying to, provide a "diagnosis". What matters is peoples' opinion. And that opinion is what will drive their voting decision.)

I agree, sadly. On the other hand, a younger, energetic candidate has the potential to upend this dismal race.

I watched the debate last night, as well as some of the analysis afterward, and have many thoughts.

The format seemed to work well, but I'm concerned by many things I watched and heard. For example, I liked the format where microphones were cut off after a certain period of time, but I was very concerned by how well Trump lied and the fact that he was rarely called on his lies in real-time. I was glad that most news outlets outlined the lies afterward. I was amazed that Trump stayed as calm as he did for so long. I don't recall him exhibiting that much control in the past.

Biden didn't appear to be well and that concerned me on multiple levels. I've also been concerned to hear that his wife and sister are the only people who might be able to convince him that it would be best for the country if he let another person run as the Democratic candidate in November.

I'm *guessing* that we're heading into an interesting political "season".
